Natural killer (NK) activity in patients with chronic granulomatous disease.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Natural killer (NK) activity against K 562 target cells was explored in 4 patients with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). Although the NK activity of these patients was normal, the activity did not change after removal of monocytes from the effector cell population, contrary to normal adult controls. The possibility of a defect in the regulatory function of monocytes on NK activity in CGD patients is discussed.

Increased Natural Killer Cells Activity in Schizophrenic Patients
Background: Schizophrenia has been associated with altered immunity. Different studies regarding natural killer cell activity (NKA) in schizophrenic patients have shown inconsistent results. Objectives: To evaluate NK cell activity in schizophrenic patients in comparison with healthy control individuals. Methods: 30 medication-free schizophrenic patients and 41 healthy sex, age and smoking st...

Background and purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the proportion of natural killer (NK) and natural killer T (NKT)-like cells in dyspeptic disorders caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Materials and methods: In a case-control study, 27 patients with gastric cancer (GC), 25 patients with peptic ulcer (PUD), and 22 patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD) were enrolled. After en...
متن کاملLow Circulating Natural Killer Cell Counts are Associated With Severe Disease in Patients With Common Variable Immunodeficiency
Natural Killer (NK) cells have been shown to exert antiviral and antitumoural activities. Nevertheless most available data are derived from mouse models and functions of these cells in human remain unclear. To evaluate the impact of low circulating NK cell counts and to provide some clues to the role of NK cells in natural conditions, we studied a large cohort of patients with common variable i...
متن کاملSinonasal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma presenting as pyrexia of unknown origin with nasal symptoms.
A 68-year-old Chinese man presented with an eight-month history of pyrexia of unknown origin and chronic sinusitis despite multiple courses of antibiotics. He underwent extensive investigations, including workups for infections, chronic granulomatous diseases and malignancy. Nasal biopsies were performed twice under local anaesthesia, but did not show any evidence of malignancy. Eventually, the...
متن کاملActivating natural killer (NK) cytotoxicity of canine CD5−CD21− cells requires low surface CD5 density NK cells
Natural killer (NK) cells play a crucial role in regulating immune functions. Few studies have characterized canine NK cells. We previously demonstrated that canine peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) with a low surface CD5 density (CD5lo) are considered a critical NK population. Natural killer cells in most mammals do not express T-cell markers, but canine CD5lo cells express surface molecules...
